The modern Olde Bulldogge is a reconstruction of the old bullbaiting dog of the 17th and 18th centuries. The result has been a good looking bulldog of great athletic ability and much healthier dog. The goal of all bulldogge breeders should be to produce a genetically healthy, bulldog that is a free breather, a free breeder, and a free whelper. An intelligent, stable, family protector and companion. As you can see theese dogs do not and should not look like the modern day AKC English Bulldog. Both are great dogs, but they should not look the same as you can see by the standards below.
HEAD - The head should be large and high, deeply sunken between the eyes.
MUZZLE - Should be broad, deep and short. The bite is undershot. the muzzle should not be pushed up between the eyes. From the stop to the end of the nosemust be at least an inch.
EYES - Should be wide appart and of moderate size; any eye color is acceptable.
NECK - Short and Very Muscular.
CHEST - The ribs should be well rounded and the chest wide and deep.
BACK - The back is to be short with a light rise from the shoulders to the rump. Level backis just as acceptable.
LEGS - the forelegs should be stout and wide appart. Hind legs should have moderate angularation of the stiffle, neither turning in or out.
FEET - Should be round and the patterns should be strong.
SIZE - Males should be between 17 to 23 inches at the shoulder, with a weight around 60 to 90 pounds. Females should be between 15 to 21 inches at the shoulder with a weight of 50 to 80 pounds. No penalty for dogs above the sizes as long as the dog is well proportioned.
COLOR - Any color ia acceptable except merle.
EARS - Should be either drop or rose.
TAIL - Naturally reaches the hock.
In general the OLDE Bulldogge should be of medium to large size with a very muscular body. He should be an athlete that moves easily. His disposition should be friendly but ready to defend his famile at a moments notice.
